Prison (InsideOut)

InsideOut is a project run by CLF Greenwich, reaching out to prisoners, ex-prisoners and their families.
As a faith-based project, we approach this from the perspective of what the Bible says about loving each other and caring for those whom society rejects. We believe that the Bible teaches that Jesus calls all followers of Him to love and care for those who are cast aside by society, so InsideOut seeks to stand with ex-prisoners to bring the truth and love of Jesus into their lives.

Our aim is to encourage and support prisoners in their choice to live a different way once released, and standing alongside them as they reintegrate into society upon release from prison.
We seek to provide a safe place where people are accepted, encouraged and can grow to be more like Jesus, through befriending, mentoring, discipleship, and linking up with local churches.

‘I have found Jesus in prison, but will He come with me through the gate when I leave??’
~ DM, currently in prison ~

InsideOut runs a monthly ‘BlessUp’ peer-support group, and hosts other events throughout the year, including a Summer picnic and a Christmas celebration, and we regularly run training events for mentors, befrienders and the team.

What we offer to prisoners & ex-prisoners:

  • 1:1 befriending and mentoring
  • Monthly support groups for ex-prisoners
  • Bible study groups in prison
  • Writing letters to prisoners
  • Emotional and practical support for families of prisoners
  • Assistance with finding work / accommodation
  • Linking with addiction support services & probation officers
  • Connecting with a local church

‘You are the only ones offering hope to the prisoners, so keep doing what you’re doing’
~ a local prison Governor ~

InsideOut has a vision to set the captives free inside and out (Luke 4:18)
We believe this applies not only to being inside and outside of prison, but also inner healing as well as changes in outward behaviour.

‘I had been in and out of prison seven times. Then when I found InsideOut, my life was never the same; I finally found a place to be rehabilitated, supported and accepted’
~ SH, a local ex-prisoner ~
